On Thursday, May 3, Midland College (MC) employees celebrated employee excellence
and service at the annual Awards Celebration held in the Allison Fine Arts Building
Wagner & Brown Auditorium.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of Teachers of the Year for the 2017-18 school year. MC students cast the ballots for this award, and four
faculty members were chosen: Brendan Egan, department chair, Creative Writing and Philosophy; Eric Gutierrez, Assistant Professor, Automotive and Diesel Technology; David Hopkins, Henry Professor of History; and Doug Johnson, department chair, Business Administration. Rebecca Randolph, English faculty, was named Adjunct Instructor of the Year.
MC Executive Vice President Dr. Richard Jolly presented staff excellence awards to Tiffany Adair, Associate Director of Financial Aid; Elsa Barrandey, Secretary for Pathways Advising; Yafei Blevins, Secretary of Adult Education & Literacy; Katelyn Fanning, Academic Advisor; Jody Garcia, PC/Network Technician; Beth Gilbert, Vehicle Make Ready Technician/Driver; Carolyn Snider, Accounting Assistant; Karen Waggoner, Director, Institutional Effectiveness & Research; and Wendy Wood-Collins, Director of Health Sciences Continuing Education.
MC Executive Director of Institutional Advancement Rebecca Bell presented the Institutional Ambassador award to Dean of Mathematics & Science Dr. Margaret Wade for her efforts to promote Midland College and secure resources for research, extra-curricular
activities and the college’s new Primary Care Pathways program.
MC Dean of Adult & Continuing Education Dale Beikirch received the Camille Duchesne Award for his service to the college’s satellite campus, the Williams Regional Technical
Training Center, located in Fort Stockton, TX. Pictured to the left are Matt Tarpley

MC President Dr. Steve Thomas presented retirement awards to D. J. Coughenour, Maintenance Technician; John Deats, Director of the Fasken Learning Resource Center; Kay Floyd, Executive Secretary of Health Sciences, Dr. Richard Jolly, Executive Vice President; Kim Linebarger, Associate Degree Nursing faculty; Lynn Mock, Associate Degree Nursing faculty; Dana Raney, Admissions & Records Specialist; Jim Rees, Shipping & Receiving Specialist; Ken Riley, Director of Physical Plant; Stacy Schroeder, Students Accounts Coordinator; Gregory Smith, Groundskeeper; Carolyn Sutton, Cosmetology Lab Supervisor and Andrea Zabel, Professor of Psychology and Sociology.
In addition, Dr. Thomas presented service awards and recognized employees for 5, 10,
15, 20, 25. 30 and 35 years of service.
