Payments will be made directly to the transfer institution.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Midland College graduate
  • Participation in MC graduation ceremony
  • Free Federal Student Aid Student Report
  • GPA of 2.0 (3.0 recommended)
  • Acceptance letter from a public, Texas university
  • Full time attendance at the university
  • Application (available January 1st each year)
  • Essay describing your financial need for the scholarship, other types of aid you are receiving, the major you are pursuing, and your plans after completing your education
  • Interviews may be required
  • Community service may be required

PLEASE NOTE: Selection for these scholarships will be made by the respective foundations. The decisions are final. Notifications of awards will be made during the Midland College Graduation Ceremony.

Graduating Legacy Scholars are eligible to apply for the Herbert L. Cartwright Education Continuance Scholarship.

The scholarship awards up to $6,250 per semester (reduced by the amount of Pell Grant, Scholarships, or other academic awards) at a public university in Texas. The total award is based on cost of attendance of the school attended and personal situation.

The scholarship is renewable for two years and continues only for the four semesters after leaving Midland College, fall and spring only, or completion of a bachelor's degree. Awards are competitive and not guaranteed.

Graduating Midland College sophomores are eligible to apply for the Abell-Hanger Endowed Scholarship at UTPB.

The scholarship awards $1,500 per semester for a maximum of four consecutive semesters (reduced by the amount of Pell Grant, Scholarships, or other academic scholarships) to students transferring to UTPB for their Junior and Senior years. 

The scholarship is renewable for two years and continues only for the four semesters after leaving Midland College, fall and spring only, or completion of a bachelor's degree. Awards are competitive and not guaranteed.

The scholarship awards up to $6,250 for a maximum of four consecutive semesters (reduced by the amount of Pell Grant, Scholarships, or other academic scholarships) to graduating A.D.N. nursing students transferring into UTPB's B.S.N. program.  

B.S.N. program students must achieve their pre-nursing requisites from Midland College for the UTPB's B.S.N. program, be accepted and pursue a B.S.N. from UTPB, have a transfer  grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher and maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester for renewal of the scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to Midland College Alumni working toward degree completion at a four-year university. 

The scholarship awards $1,500 per semester for a maximum of two consecutive semesters after leaving Midland College, fall and spring only, or completing a bachelor's degree.

PLEASE NOTE: Selection for this scholarship will be made by the Midland College Alumni Leadership Council. The decisions are final. Notifications of awards will be made during the Midland College Graduation Ceremony.

Awards are competitive and not guaranteed. 

This scholarship is awarded to veterans enrolled in the Military Resource Center at Midland College as they work toward a degree and transfer to a four-year university. 

The scholarship is renewable for two years and continues only for the four consecutive semesters after leaving Midland College, fall and spring only, or completing a bachelor's degree. A minimum 2.0 GPA, full-time university enrollment, and progress toward degree completion. Awards are up to $2,500 per semester. Scholarship Awards can pay for tuition/fees, books, supplies, tests, room and board, and student needs. The total award is based on cost of attendance of the school attended and personal situation.

PLEASE NOTE: Selection for this scholarship will be made by the Midland College Veteran Scholarship Committee. The decisions are final. 

Awards are competitive and not guaranteed. 

This scholarship is for students transferring from Midland College to Angelo State University. There is no application, award is based on transferrable course GPA and the number of transferrable credit hours. Angelo State University will make all final decisions on scholarship amount, award processes, and renewal.

Eligibility Requirements

Students who graduate from Midland College and plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at a four-year Texas public university may be eligible for one of the Graduating Sophomore Scholarships. Students must:

  • Attend ONE Mandatory Meeting:
    Thursday, January 18, 2024, 4:30 - 5:30 pm, Carrasco Room or

    Friday, February 9, 2024, 4:30 - 5:30 pm, Carrasco Room or
    Wednesday, March 6, 2024, 4:30 - 5:30 pm, Carrasco Room
  • Receive an Associate Degree by July 31 of the current academic year (2023-2024)
  • Cross the stage at the December 2023 or May 2024 graduation ceremony
  • Cumulative 2.0 or higher GPA (some transfer scholarships have a 3.0 minimum requirement)
  • Attend a public Texas university as a full-time student

Submission Deadline:  Thursday, March 28, 2024, 5 PM

Required Documentation

All required documents must be submitted together between January 18, 2024, and March 28, 2024. Some items may take several weeks to receive, so prepare early.
  1. Copy of Student Aid Report (SAR)
    Complete the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to get the SAR (this can be a timely process; start early) OR a memo with Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) eligibility
  2. At least two letters of recommendation from Midland College faculty or staff
  3. Official, sealed Midland College transcript
  4. Letter of acceptance from a Texas public institution
  5. A digital photo (photos will be taken at the attended mandatory meeting)
  6. Essay. The essay must be the applicant’s own work and be no more than 750 words. The essay should be written in MS Word ONLY and emailed to scholarships@midland.edu. The following information must be included in the essay:

    -Financial need for the scholarship
    -Other types of financial assistance that you are receiving
    -The major being pursued
    -Plans to use that major after graduating

  7. An interview may be required of selected candidates. If selected as a recipient, community service may be required. The funding organizations make ALL scholarship selection decisions.

Failure to truthfully and accurately complete the Graduating Sophomore Scholarship application and submit all required documentation by March 28, 2024 will result in disqualification for scholarship consideration.
