Skillpoint Alliance HVAC Technician Course

What is Skillpoint Alliance?

Skillpoint Alliance serves individuals residing in the Permian Basin and is dedicated to helping people escape poverty by providing hands-on training courses in the skilled trades and advance manufacturing industry, free of charge to participants.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Permian Strategic Partnership, Skillpoint Alliance Permian Basin will offer a free, five-week registered ACT Technician course that provides hands-on training and certifications. In addition to paying for students' tuition through grants, Skillpoint staff will provide additional support services such as transportation assistance, tutoring and job search assistance.

Skillpoint’s mentorship program connects students with local employers through class presentations and field trips. Many mentor employers hire students as full-time employees upon graduation.

Course Details

Skillpoint’s five-week program provides both basic construction training and Level One HVAC Tech training. After completing Construction Fundamentals (such as construction math, tool safety, and job site safety), the course then moves into curriculum specific to the HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) trade and covers building codes, pipe fittings, diagnosing malfunctions, and air duct systems. It includes hands-on experience and instruction about aspects of HVAC systems for commercial, industrial and residential buildings.

At the end of the program, participants sit for their Environmental Protection Agency 608 Universal exam. Participants obtain their OSHA 10 certification during the program and applicants apply for their HVAC Registered ACR Technician License from the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration (TDLR).
