Midland College awarded over $1,000,000 in scholarships during the 2022-2023 school year! Midland College has more than 200 scholarship opportunities available to all registered students every year, thanks to our generous donors.

Scholarships are awarded based on factors such as a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher, participation in various activities, special interests, or financial need. Special consideration will be given to non-traditional students.  

2023-24 Scholarship Dates

  • Summer 2023: February 1, 2023 - April 28, 2023
  • Fall 2023 Priority: July 1, 2023
  • Fall 2023 : August 1, 2023
  • Spring 2024: December 1, 2023
  • Summer 2024: May 1, 2024 
Most scholarships do not require an application, but if an additional application is required, you will be notified via MC email.

Complete FAFSA or TASFA

FAFSA

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the application used to collect information to determine your eligibility for a Federal PELL Grant, Federal Work Study, Direct Loans and other State and local funding sources. To ease the application process, visit MC's Applying for Financial Aid/FAFSA page by clicking the link below. If familiar with the process, proceed to the FAFSA Application link.

TASFA

The TASFA (Texas Application For State Financial Aid) is for students who are ineligible to fill out the FAFSA because they are not a U.S. Citizen or a permanent non-resident may be eligible to fill out the TASFA. Students must be a Texas resident, show financial need, and be enrolled at least half-time. Students should fill out completely and return the TASFA, as well as tax transcripts and/or federal tax returns to the Financial Aid office.

Eligibility is determined using federal methodology and is scaled depending on the student’s Estimated Family Contribution. Students can print out the instructions and application at the College for All Texans website.

WAYS TO REGISTER

  1. Contact your advisor directly
    Log in to My MC Portal and open your dashboard. Your advisor's name will be in the white box, second column. By selecting your advisor's name, you will be able to send an e-mail requesting an appointment. 

  2. Online through My MC Portal
    Self-register by logging into My MC Portal > select the "Registration" heading > Click "Add/Drop Courses." 

NOTE: Students with a hold on their account may not be able to set an appointment and/or register.

ACCOMMODATIONS

To visit with a counselor regarding accommodations, visit our Disability Service's page and complete the Disability Accommodation Application. 

  • It is recommended to submit the form 2-3 weeks before classes begin to allow time for processing.
  • The application must be submitted each semester for continued accommodations.

Scholarship Awardees

Common Questions

A scholarship is typically merit-based and awarded to students who excel in academics, sports, or extracurricular activities. Midland College scholarships award scholarships based on various factors, such as academic talent, participation in various activities, special interests, or financial need.

The General Scholarship Fund offers over 200 scholarship opportunities per academic year to enrolled students. Students are placed into scholarship consideration by completing the current year FAFSA/TASFA and enrolling in courses. 

For the Midland College General Scholarship Fund, you need to complete the current year FAFSA/TASFA, enroll in credit hours courses per semester, complete the general scholarship application, complete the scholarship questionnaire and Authorization Release form. All documents are located in your My MC Portal. NO application required!

Yes. MC students must complete the current year FAFSA or TASFA applications for scholarship consideration through the MC General Scholarship Fund each year. 

Yes. Scholarship consideration is based on enrollment hours, so make sure and register for classes before the submission deadlines.

Yes. Room and Board and transportation scholarships are taxable and should be self-reported on your yearly tax return. 

Tuition, fees, and book scholarships are not taxable and should not be reported on your tax return. 

Scholarships are awarded toward students' tuition and fees first. Any unused funds can be used at the MC Bookstore. Please email MC Scholarships before going to the MC Bookstore, scholarships@midland.edu. Don't forget to include your MC ID#.

Yes. Students can receive the PELL grant and scholarships during the academic semester. Please complete the current year FAFSA/TASFA to see if you qualify. 

A non-traditional student can be qualified by one of the following statements while seeking a degree or certification at Midland College:

  • Delays enrollment (does not enter postsecondary education in the same calendar year that he or she finished high school)
  • Attends part-time for at least part of the academic year
  • Works full-time (35 hours or more per week) while enrolled
  • Is considered financially independent for purposes of determining eligibility for financial aid
  • Has dependents other than a spouse (usually children, but may also be caregivers of sick or elderly family members)
  • Does not have a high school diploma (completed high school with a GED or other high school completion certificate or did not finish high school)

General scholarship award notifications are sent to the students' MC student email only. Once the student receives the award notification, students are required to complete the Scholarship Questionnaire located in your My MC Portal. Please follow the acceptance instructions listed on the award notification. Scholarship awards need to be claimed within two weeks of award notification; otherwise, students risk rescinding their scholarships. 

Scholarships awarded through the General Scholarship Fund do not have to be repaid. However, there are some scholarships that require repayment. Please check your scholarship award notification for clarification.
