3 Midland College Students Earn Early Admission to Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine Through Primary Care Pathway ProgramJanuary 27, 2026
![]() Midland College proudly announces that Ariana Blackwell, Zing Len, and Ovya Rajamanickam,
students in its Primary Care Pathway Program (PCPP), have earned early admission to the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.
The early acceptance of these three students represents a significant milestone and
reflects the strength of Midland College’s partnership with the University of North Texas and UNT Health Science Center. Through this collaboration, Midland College provides a structured, supportive pathway
for students pursuing careers in medicine.
The Primary Care Pathway Program is an accelerated medical education pathway that
allows highly motivated students to complete their training through a “2-plus-1-plus-4”
model: two years at Midland College, one year at the University of North Texas in
Denton, and four years at TCOM. Students who meet program requirements may apply for
Early Acceptance Notification during their second year at Midland College and are
not required to take the MCAT as part of the early admission process.
“Early acceptance to TCOM is a tremendous accomplishment, and we couldn’t be prouder
of these students,” said Joey Schenkman, Associate Professor of Biology and Director
of the Midland College Primary Care Pathway Program. “They represent the heart of the Primary Care Pathway Program, driven, compassionate
learners who are already taking steps toward becoming the physicians our region needs.
Their achievements affirm that when barriers are removed and students are supported,
extraordinary things happen.”
PCPP students engage in a competitive and comprehensive curriculum that includes two
summer internships and opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, such as hands-on
sonography training and life‑saving CPR/AED certification.
The program also emphasizes community engagement and clinical experience to prepare
students for the real‑world challenges of healthcare delivery. The program is designed
to reduce financial, academic, and systemic barriers while maintaining high standards
of academic excellence.
TCOM is nationally recognized for its focus on osteopathic medicine and primary care,
with a mission that closely aligns with Midland College’s goal of addressing physician
shortages in West Texas and underserved communities across the state.
The early acceptance of Ariana Blackwell, Zing Len, and Ovya Rajamanickam underscores
Midland College’s ongoing commitment to student success and workforce development.
Through programs like PCPP, the College continues to create clear, attainable pathways
for students to pursue meaningful careers in healthcare.
