The Midland College Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series presents Dr. Hakeem OluseyiSeptember 27, 2021

With its wide-open spaces West Texas is perfect for stargazing. That is why Midland College (MC), the Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series and MC Friends of the Series invite the community to learn all about the cosmos during an evening with Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi, astrophysicist, inventor, and researcher. Dr. Oluseyi will present a FREE lecture Thursday, Oct. 7 at 7:00 p.m. at MC’s Al G. Langford Chaparral Center. 

Those interested in attending can reserve FREE tickets for General Admission seating by emailing the Midland College Foundation .  Please submit your name, mailing address and requested number of tickets. All in-person seating is limited. For those attending, social distancing will be enforced, and MC strongly encourages face covering/masks for the safety of all guests.

Dr. Oluseyi’s life is inspiring. He went from rough neighborhoods in the American South to receiving his Ph.D. from Stanford University. Throughout his life he’s broken down barriers in the scientific community as one of only a few African American researchers.

"As the new kid in the bad neighborhood, I was always immediately challenged upon arrival, which meant fighting,” Dr. Oluseyi explains. “I was not interested in this, so I spent a lot of time indoors reading and watching PBS nature shows. I discovered Jacques Cousteau on TV and Albert Einstein in my reading. The effects of relativity just knocked my socks off! I did everything I could to get my head around this stuff. I thought, 'Man! Scientists are super cool!’"
