Midland College students and employees participate in food drive November 02, 2017

The Midland College (MC) Student Activities Office is once again coordinating the annual MC canned food drive to benefit First Christian Church’s Disciples Food Pantry.  Donations are being accepted at various locations on the main MC campus through Monday, November 20.

“We’ve been holding a food drive for over 15 years, and there is always a friendly competition to see which building on campus can donate the most,” said MC Student Activities Coordinator Taneekwa Ross-Hurdle.  “Employees and students participate.  Then, the MC Golf Team delivers the cans to the Disciples Food Pantry.”

The Disciples Food Pantry at First Christian Church, located at 1301 Louisiana in Midland, has been in operation since 1986 and is completely manned by church volunteers.  Approximately two years ago, the pantry was moved from its former location at Memorial Christian Church on the corner of Andrews Highway and Cuthbert.  Over 250 Permian Basin families take advantage of the church’s food pantry services each month. 

“The donations from Midland College are always so much appreciated,” said Food Pantry coordinator Mike Landrum.  “We see so many families struggling to make ends meet in Midland due to the high cost of living.  Thanks to the donations from the college, we can provide a little extra something for families during the holiday season.”
