Seventeen students graduated from Midland College’s (MC) Associate Degree Nursing program in December 2021.  On February 8, Midland College officials learned that all 17 graduates passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

“I am proud of the great work that Dian White [department chair, Associate Degree Nursing] and the faculty are doing to maintain program excellence,” Dr. Carmen Edwards, MC dean of Health Sciences, said.  “These students were in the program at the onset of the pandemic.  They worked hard and thrived through countless curricular and clinical adaptations.  Their success is a tribute to the excellent program and faculty we have at Midland College.”

For the entire year of 2021, a total of 40 Midland College graduates took the NCLEX exam, and 38 passed, making the college’s pass rate 95 percent.  The two graduates who were unsuccessful on their first attempt have retested and are now Registered Nurses.

Other West Texas regional nursing schools also performed well, which is an indicator that area healthcare systems can hire competent nurses.  Pass rates for other West Texas Registered Nursing programs are as follows:

  • Odessa College – 87.67%
  • University of Texas Permian Basin – 89.47%
  • Howard College – 97.30%
  • Texas Tech Health Sciences Center (all campuses) – 86.11%

“Midland College is extremely proud of our Associate Degree Nursing program and all our Health Sciences programs,” MC President Dr. Steve Thomas said.  “Our faculty work hard so that students in these programs learn the skills needed to help ensure that healthcare in West Texas is available to all of us.  In the end, we are all the beneficiaries of these programs.”
