Midland College Williams Regional Technical Training Center approved as Law Enforcement Academy to offer Basic Peace Officer trainingMarch 29, 2018

The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) has licensed the Midland College Williams Regional Technical Training Center (WRTTC) as a law enforcement academy.  The WRTTC will begin offering basic peace officer training in early summer.

“There is a huge need for licensed peace officers in Pecos County and other rural West Texas counties,” explained Matt Tarpley, director of the Midland College WRTTC.  “When we approached staff at TCOLE about establishing an academy in this area, they were very enthusiastic about having an academy in what they termed as an ‘underserved area of the state.’”

Tarpley explained that classes will be offered Monday through Thursday evenings to accommodate people with full-time jobs.  The length of the entire program is 720 hours and will last for 10 months.  Upon successful completion of the TCOLE Basic Peace Officer course, students will be qualified to sit for TCOLE’s licensed peace officer exam.  Classroom instruction will be offered at the WRTTC, and driving and shooting skills will be taught at the Texas Proving Grounds and City of Fort Stockton Shooting Range.

About the Midland College Williams Regional Technical Training Center

The WRTTC is Midland College’s only branch campus and is located at 1309 West I-10 in Fort Stockton, TX (on the south Frontage Road, just north of the Fort Stockton High School campus).

The WRTTC serves its students through university parallel and occupational/technical certificate and associate degree programs.  The campus also offers a wide variety of continuing education classes and programs.
