Before you plant this year’s vegetable garden or choose which flowers you want to plant when the weather gets warmer, you may want to join Midland College for its continuing education course “Introduction to Gardening in the Permian Basin.”  The course begins March 2 and meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:00 p.m. through March 30.  Course instructor is Jeanette Castañon, County Extension Agent Horticulture with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.  Cost is just $25.

“We are very fortunate that Ms. Castañon agreed to teach this course,” Brenda Cordero, associate director of Community Programs Continuing Education, said.  “Texas  A&M AgriLife Extension plays a vital role in Midland County by providing researched-based information to address plants that thrive in the harsh West Texas climate.”

Cordero said that in addition to getting satisfaction from growing something oneself, gardening is also a great form of exercise and can even reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

For more information about the class or to register, visit the Community Programs page on the MC website and choose the “Personal Enrichment” option.  Course number is MISC9711.  Staff in the Community Programs Continuing Education department are also available to answer questions and help with phone registration.  Call (432) 685-4518.
