The Midland College Petroleum Professional Development Center (PPDC) will expand scholarship
opportunities for energy industry professionals enrolled in continuing education classes.
Last week, Midland College received a $35,000 grant from the Dawson Geophysical Scholarship
Fund held at Permian Basin Area Foundation specifically for this purpose.
“In this current time of industry downturn, it is encouraging that Permian Basin Area
Foundation recognizes the future potential of local professionals within the oil &
gas industry,” Erin Van Evera-Welch, PPDC director, said. “It is with this support
that the PPDC will be able to assist professionals with their continuing education
needs in order to be successful petroleum industry associates. This newly formed
partnership between Permian Basin Area Foundation and the PPDC is very much valued.”
The PPDC, which is located in the Jack G. Elam Building at the corner of Main Street
and Illinois Avenue in downtown Midland, provides quality continuing education for
the Permian Basin energy industries. The center is one of seven mid-career training
centers worldwide recognized by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG).
The PPDC offers courses related to business/finance, engineering, land, geoscience,
wellsite & drilling operations and energy industry specific software. Many of the
PPDC classes qualify for re-certification credits that engineers, geologists, and
petroleum landmen need to maintain their professional certification status. The PPDC
also holds various symposiums on timely issues important to the region's oil and gas
industry.

"We are very appreciative to the Permian Basin Area Foundation,” Van Evera-Welch said.
“Thank you so much for advancing professional development for energy industry employees
in West Texas!”
