 Midland College welcomed leaders from across education, government, and industry on
Wednesday, April 16, for the Workforce Development Summit: Linking Education to Industry
– Shaping the Workforce of Tomorrow in the Permian Basin. Held in the Carrasco Room
on the MC main campus, the event brought together key voices in a shared commitment
to creating workforce-aligned education and regional solutions that benefit West Texas.
The summit served as a forum for collaboration and idea exchange, spotlighting the
importance of coordinated efforts in preparing students for high-demand careers and
ensuring that industry has access to a skilled and ready workforce.
“Midland College is proud to serve as a catalyst for these vital conversations,” said
Dr. Damon Kennedy, MC President. “We are deeply invested in the future of the Permian
Basin, and events like this help strengthen the connections that lead to long-term
economic growth and opportunity.”
The College was honored to receive a special video message from Texas Governor Greg
Abbott, who applauded the summit’s attendees for their role in strengthening the Texas
workforce and recognized the importance of educational and industry partnerships in
sustaining regional prosperity.
Throughout the day, panels and presentations featured influential voices discussing
key topics, including economic trends, K–12 and higher education collaboration, innovation
zones, and workforce initiatives.

From regional economic insights presented by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas to
a Tri-Agency panel featuring representatives from the Texas Workforce Commission and
the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the summit emphasized the value of
cross-sector collaboration.
As West Texas continues to experience rapid change and growth, Midland College remains
committed to playing a central role in developing solutions that align educational
pathways with industry needs.
