Midland students recognized at state and international levelsApril 10, 2019

Congratulations to Midland College (MC) Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society students for numerous accomplishments at both the state and international levels.

Tatum Dotson and Madeline Flores were both selected as USA All Academic semi-finalists and both were chosen for the Texas All Academic team.  Tatum Dotson was also selected as a Coca Cola Bronze scholar which carries a cash award.  The medal ceremony will be held at the University of Texas Arlington on April 26.

International Level
Catalyst, the international conference for PTK was held April 4-7 in Orlando, Florida. 

·       Jacob Edwards was recognized as one of the top four winners internationally for his leadership case study. He receives a cash award.

·       Jacob Edwards and Tatum Dotson were 2 of 30 officers recognized on the international level.

·       Karina Lopez was 1 of 30 members recognized on the international level.

·       Dr. Terry Gilmour, MC Government professor and Phi Theta Kappa advisor,  was 1 of 15 recipients of the Paragon Award for advisors with less than 4 years as an advisor.

·       Midland College was recognized as one of the top 100 PTK chapters internationally.  (There are a total of 1300 chapters and 600 chapters were represented at the conference)

Texas Level
Texas is in Region 2 of PTK International, and it includes all community college systems in Texas.  Midland College is in District 1 of the Texas Region.  The Texas Region conference was held March 7-10 in Houston, Texas.  The MC Phi Theta Kappa chapter received the following awards:

·       Participant – College Project and Honors in Action

·       5 Star Recognition (highest level a chapter can receive for all of the participation projects)

·       Merit Award – College Project

·       Top Texas Chapter – given to the top 18 chapters in the state

·       Distinguished Chapter Officer – winner was Jacob Edwards

·       Hall of Honor for Outstanding Officers – Tatum Dotson

·       Distinguished Member – winner was Karina Lopez

·       Hall of Honor for Advisors – Dr. Terry Gilmour

·       District 1 Hall of Honor Inductees – Jacob Edwards, Tatum Dotson, Madeline Flores, Micaela Sanchez, Anna Lien, and Caitlinn Gamero

·       District 1 Vice President for the Texas Region – Dusty Ellis
