Midland College is proud to announce that the Midland College First-Generation Ambassadors have been formally recognized by the State of Texas for their exemplary service, leadership, and philanthropic impact. State Representative Tom Craddick issued an official House Resolution honoring the group in celebration of National Philanthropy Day on November 18, 2025.

The resolution acknowledges the First-Generation Ambassadors for receiving the Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Permian Basin Chapter — an honor given to young leaders who demonstrate exceptional commitment to giving back, volunteerism, and community engagement.

MC’s First-Generation Ambassador Program supports students who are the first in their families to attend college. In addition to receiving mentorship and leadership development, Ambassadors serve as representatives of Midland College at major campus and community events. The resolution notes the strong example these students set as they balance academics with service, community involvement, and personal growth.

The Texas House Resolution highlights the purpose of National Philanthropy Day, established by the Association of Fundraising Professionals in 1986, to celebrate the contributions of individuals and organizations dedicated to improving their communities. It also recognizes the Ambassadors’ work in raising awareness of the importance of volunteer service among their peers.

In the resolution, Rep. Craddick commended the First-Generation Ambassadors for their “dedication and spirit of service,” noting that their efforts strengthen both Midland College and the broader Midland community. The resolution concludes by extending “sincere appreciation” for the group’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy.

“We are deeply honored by this recognition from the State of Texas,” said Ida Curiel, Associate Director of First-Gen Initiatives. “Our Ambassadors lead with purpose every day, in their families and with their peers in the classroom. This resolution affirms the tremendous impact first-generation students are making throughout our community and in so many ways.”
