State Farm's vehicle donation to the Midland College Auto Technology program will allow hundreds of Midland College students to begin studying and estimating two heavily damaged cars this week. The nearly 300 students enrolled in the school's I-Car certification courses will use the vehicles donated by State Farm to learn how to write estimates, disassemble, evaluate hidden structural damage, repair, paint and reassemble. Automotive students will be able to analyze and repair mechanical and electrical damage and also perform repairs.

Students in both collision and automotive areas of study will benefit from the donation.

"These vehicles are unique in that we have the entire vehicle which has not been disassembled and they have significant damage, said Pedro Avalos, chair of Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology Energy Technology.

Avalos added that these cars give students an opportunity to further improve skills, "The vehicles that we have been using to date have only had minor damage, so these newly donated vehicles will allow for a more and thorough coverage of topics and practices used in the analysis and repair of vehicles."

Local media outlets and the community are welcome to learn about the donation of the vehicles and hear from program administrators on Wednesday, November 28 at 11:00am.
