Students from Midland College earned multiple honors at the 2026 SkillsUSA District and State competitions, demonstrating their technical knowledge and hands-on skills across a variety of contests.
 
At the district competition, Midland College students earned top finishes in automotive, diesel, and mechatronics events, with several advancing to the state level.
 

District Results:

  • Raymond Gutierrez – 3rd place Automotive Tool Identification; 2nd place Diesel Hands-On; 2nd place Automotive Quiz Bowl Team
  • Meah McGinn – 1st place Diesel; 1st place Tool Identification; 2nd place Automotive Quiz Bowl Team
  • Yareli Molinero – 3rd place Diesel; 2nd place Automotive Tool Identification; 2nd place Automotive Quiz Bowl Team
  • Mekhi Stacy – Competed in Automotive Service Technology; 2nd place Automotive Quiz Bowl Team
  • Kaylee Carillo – 3rd place Automotive Maintenance & Light Repair Hands-On; 2nd place Automotive Quiz Bowl Team
  • Oscar Armendariz – Competed in Diesel Hands-On; 2nd place Automotive Quiz Bowl Team
  • Davin White – 1st place Mechatronics Team
  • Brian Riera – 1st place Mechatronics Team
  • Jose Villegas – 2nd place Mechatronics Team
  • Xander Salcido – 2nd place Mechatronics Team
Students who advanced to the state competition competed against top students from across Texas.
 

State Results:

  • Yareli Molinero – 3rd place Automotive HVAC Technical Test
  • Davin White – 3rd place Mechatronics Team
  • Brian Riera – 3rd place Mechatronics Team
  • Jose Villegas – 2nd place Mechatronics Team
  • Xander Salcido – 2nd place Mechatronics Team
Additional students competing at the state level included Raymond Gutierrez, Meah McGinn, and Mekhi Stacy. While not every student placed at the state competition, each participant represented Midland College with professionalism and competed at a high level.
 
“These competitions push our students to perform at a high level and reflect the strength of our programs,” said Erick Gutierrez, Professor and Chair of Energy and Technical Programs at Midland College. “We’re proud of the way they represented Midland College and the dedication they’ve shown to their craft.”
 
“Their success reflects the commitment of our instructors and the strong collaboration we have with our regional education partners,” Gutierrez added. “Together, we’re able to provide meaningful, hands-on opportunities for students from across the region.”
 
Participation in SkillsUSA competitions provides students with valuable, real-world experience and the opportunity to demonstrate the workforce-ready skills they are developing in the classroom.
