Isaac Fontenot-Amedee Named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Midland CollegeMay 05, 2025
![]() Midland College is proud to announce Isaac Fontenot-Amedee as the new head coach of the Chaparral men’s basketball team. Fontenot-Amedee officially takes the helm after serving as interim head coach during the 2024–2025 season, leading the Chaps to an impressive 21-10 record and a trip to the NJCAA Region V Tournament. The team finished the season ranked No. 18 in the final NJCAA Division I national poll. “Coach Fontenot-Amedee brings a proven record of success, a deep commitment to player development, and the energy we need to continue building a championship culture here at Midland College,” said Forrest Allen, Midland College Athletic Director. “He stepped in and led our program with excellence, and we are excited to see what’s ahead under his leadership.” Before joining Midland College, Fontenot-Amedee spent three years as the basketball and track coach at Family Christian Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There, he guided the Flames to two LHSAA State Championships and one State Runner-Up finish, earning LHSAA 2022 Class C State Coach of the Year honors. Fontenot-Amedee’s collegiate coaching career includes notable stints at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM), where during the 2020–2021 season he was responsible for signing 64% of the team’s scoring output and recruiting two Sun Belt All-Conference players. Prior to ULM, he spent five years as the head coach at Clarendon College in Texas, where he compiled a 92-62 record (.597). During his time at Clarendon, the Bulldogs made three-straight Region V playoff appearances for the first time in school history. In 2019–2020, he led Clarendon to a program-best 29-3 record, a WJCAC Championship, a Region V title, and the school’s first-ever NJCAA National Tournament qualification — an event ultimately canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For his accomplishments at Clarendon, Fontenot-Amedee was named WJCAC Coach of the Year, Region V Coach of the Year, and Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Junior College Coach of the Year. Eleven players from his Clarendon squads signed Division I National Letters of Intent, including NJCAA All-American Russ Harrison. “Coach Fontenot-Amedee has demonstrated the kind of leadership, integrity, and student-centered focus that reflects the mission of Midland College,” said MC President Dr. Damon Kennedy. “We are excited to welcome him into this permanent role and confident that he will continue to elevate the Chaparral basketball program.” Fontenot-Amedee’s coaching résumé also includes experience at Hill College (TX), Dodge City Community College (KS), and with the Louisiana D1 Ambassadors traveling team. During his time with the D1 Ambassadors, 10 of his players signed with NCAA Division I programs, and two — Jarrell Brantley and Jemerrio Jones — reached the NBA. A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Fontenot-Amedee earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from Nicholls State University in 2007. “I’m honored to lead this program and continue building on the strong tradition of Midland College Basketball,” said Fontenot-Amedee. “Our goal is to develop men of character, compete at the highest level, and prepare our student-athletes for success both on and off the court. I’m excited for what’s ahead.” To learn more and stay up to date with Chaparral men’s basketball, visit www.gochaps.com. |
