Midland College Student Publications contributors won 22 awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association, according to Bob Templeton, MC Allison Chair of Journalism. These were presented at the organization’s convention in Corpus Christi on March 16.

“A special treat in this year’s competition was the winning of an onsite 3rd place award, 3rd place in overall excellence for the Midland College Press, and 1st place special edition,” Templeton said. “It was a show of team effort of the issues last semester.”

Aimee Breeden edited the special edition design print 1st place award entry. Judges said: “Nice cover and overall design. The pages that varied the photo size were more interesting…and make me want to read the stories.”

The special edition featured text and photo coverage of conservation and exploration in an eight-page tabloid publication. Big Bend National Park and the Midland area were prominently profiled.

Competing against all Texas schools, including universities, Valerie Walden won 3rd place editorial cartoon.
