Midland College Announces Path Forward Following Bond ElectionJune 17, 2025
![]() Midland College announces a focused plan to move forward following the recent bond election outcome. Although the proposed bond did not pass, MC remains committed to expanding access to high-demand programs and addressing critical workforce needs in the region. Building on two years of campus-wide planning and facilities assessment, Midland College is working closely with faculty and staff to implement a targeted approach centered on Career and Technical Education and responsible campus stewardship. While the bond would have created space to expand programs to meet the need of today and growth of tomorrow, MC is identifying ways to reallocate existing facilities to accommodate as much of the known demand as possible within programs in Health Sciences and Applied Technology, which have the highest demand from students and industry. These include Natural Gas Compression, Heavy Equipment, Truck and Trailer, Automation, Construction Trades, and Medical Assisting. "Since we began this planning process over two years ago, growth in high-demand fields has only compounded," said MC President Dr. Damon Kennedy. "Through industry and community engagement, we know that even if there is a slowdown in the energy sector, our region will continue to need a highly skilled workforce. This workforce demand creates a solid opportunity for students to secure a strong future. That's why we will be focused on creating as much space as possible for students in CTE programs." In addition to focusing on CTE program growth, the College will prioritize investments in campus safety and security. Plans include upgrades to the College's aging infrastructure, particularly its 50-year-old legacy buildings, to ensure a safe and sustainable environment for current and future students. "Our commitment to the future of our community and this college remains firm," added Kennedy. "We are determined to meet the needs of our students and the workforce, to the best of our ability, through thoughtful action and responsible stewardship." Some of these efforts will allow Midland College to enroll additional students as early as Fall 2025. |
