As vice president of Instructional Services, Dr. Damon Kennedy will occupy a pivotal
position at MC and will work closely with President Thomas. Among his responsibilities
will be the administration, coordination, and development of instructional programs.
“I am pleased to announce that Dr. Damon Kennedy has been selected as the Vice President
of Instructional Services,” said Steve Thomas, president of Midland College. “Dr.
Kennedy has proven to be an effective and tenacious leader. His selection will be
a transformational change as we engage our students to ‘Start, Strive and Succeed.’
Dr. Kennedy’s background as a teacher and administrator has prepared him to provide
vision and leadership for years to come.”
Kennedy was selected following a nationwide search. The search committee considered
numerous candidates and interviewed two finalists. He succeeds Dr. Richard Jolly
who will retire after thirty-five years of service to Midland College.
“It is a great privilege to be able to do the kind of work that I love in a place
that I love. Midland College and the Midland community have given so much to me and
my family and it is an honor to give something back,” said Dr. Kennedy. “I’m going
to be in a great position to work with faculty, staff, and administration to advance
student success initiatives. The work has already been, and will continue to be,
transformational. There is much to be done and I’m excited to get to work.”
Midland College has been a huge part of Damon Kennedy’s life. As a kid he regularly
traveled to the MC campus from Snyder to play tennis. After graduation from high school,
he became a student at MC taking courses from Charles Simmons, Will Morris, and Russell
Goodyear, faculty members who had a profound impact on his life and career. Kennedy
later received a B.A. and M.A. in American History from The University of Texas of
the Permian Basin and a Ph.D. in American History from Texas Tech University. He started
work at Midland College as an adjunct professor of History in 2004 and after two years
became a full-time professor of History. In 2015, Dr. Kennedy was promoted to the
position of Dean of Social/Behavioral Sciences & Business.
“Great things are happening at Midland College and in the Midland Community,” added
Kennedy. “It is an exciting time to be a Midlander.”
