Midland College Joins NJCAA Esports, Expanding Competitive Opportunities for StudentsAugust 18, 2026
![]() Midland College has officially joined the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE), the nation's largest collegiate esports association for two-year institutions, marking a significant milestone in the growth of the College's esports program. Midland College will participate in the NJCAAE Engagement League during the Fall 2026 semester, providing students, alumni, and employees an opportunity to compete, develop skills, and gain experience ahead of the program's transition to competitive play in Spring 2027. The College's entry into NJCAAE competition was supported by a $10,000 gift from Dingus Investments, Inc., whose contribution will help strengthen the growing esports program and create new opportunities for student engagement. "The growth of Chaps Esports demonstrates how student engagement continues to evolve,” said Joseph Granado, MC Vice President of Student Services. “By joining the NJCAAE, we're creating new opportunities for students to connect with their peers, develop valuable skills, and represent Midland College in organized collegiate competition. This is an investment in student success, community, and the future of our esports program." "At Midland College, we're always looking for new ways to help students find their place and get involved,” said MC Dean of Student Life Nicole Cooper. “Esports has become an important part of student life, bringing together students with shared interests and creating a sense of belonging. Joining the NJCAAE is an exciting step forward for our program and our students." Founded in 2019, NJCAA Esports serves as the international competitive body for two-year colleges and provides member institutions with competition, championships, program development resources, and operational support. The association includes hundreds of community colleges and junior colleges across the United States and internationally. The announcement builds on the momentum generated by the opening of the Chaps Esports Arena in November 2025. The 1,830-square-foot facility is the largest esports arena in the Permian Basin and serves as a hub for gaming, competition, and community building at Midland College. As esports continues to grow nationwide, Midland College recognizes that the activity helps students develop teamwork, communication, leadership, strategic thinking, and digital skills while fostering a sense of belonging and community. During the Engagement League phase this fall, students, alumni, and employees will compete in various games and gain valuable experience in organized collegiate esports competition. Once the program enters the Competitive League in Spring 2027, roster spots will be determined through tryouts, and participation will be limited to Midland College students.
