This two- and half-day course covers all aspects of reserve reporting - from concepts to validation. Specifically designed for oil & gas professionals, it provides participants with the tools and knowledge they need to understand, use, and validate a reserve report. Using clear and non-technical language, the course uses modules to introduce basic reservoir concepts, reserves definitions, the preparation of a reserve report and the wide variety of metrics and methodologies used to validate a reserve report. Throughout the course, real-world data, field examples, and reserve software are used to emphasize and demonstrate key concepts. Upon conclusion, participants will have gained a better understanding of how to proactively review, analyze and validate a reserve report; and perhaps more importantly, how to identify the underlying risks not readily apparent in a typical reserve report.

This course is designed for students having limited oilfield production operations experience. Within the topics covered, students will gain a basic understanding of fluid flow as well as temperature & pressure, beginning at the initial well bore to the run ticket. At the completion of this course the student will be able to explain operating principles, identify major parts of oilfield operations equipment, and explain how fluids move and are treated for effective separation of oil. After the classroom sessions are completed a visit to the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum will follow. Included in the museum tour, are exhibits of petroleum history, the birth of the industry including geology, drilling & seismic, as well as mineral, art, & Chaparral galleries and virtual tours. The tour concludes with a walk-through of the “Oil Patch Exhibit.”

This one-day class will cover all failure modes of the sucker rod form of artificially lifted wells. Most failures using the sucker rod lift method are attributed to one of the following components - tubing, sucker rods, and downhole pumps. Students will learn how to recognize various failures and causes, record them for tracking purposes, and learn practices to prevent repeat failures.

This class will help the students understand failures and how to reduce the frequency rates, and how to implement a cost-effective failure management tracking program. This class adds value to companies who operate marginally producing wells with high frequency failures by teaching their employee various measures to recognize and prevent failures which will allow them to produce marginal wells more effectively. Effective failure management can mean the difference between operating and plugging these "problem" wells.

Are you a person who is drowning in a sea of terms you don't understand? Have you seen the terms "BOP", "WOC", and "bump plug", but have no idea what these processes look like, or even what these abbreviations mean? The Oil and Gas Industry has a set of terms that are very unique. If you don't work in the field on a consistent basis, many of these will be virtually impossible to decipher. This course is designed to not only define what these terms are, but what the actual processes look like; utilizing discussion, actual pictures, videos and examples.

The course will be structured such that an imaginary well will be drilled, completed and placed on production over the 2-day seminar; while along the way, explaining basic oilfield procedures, and their associated terms. Over 100 of the most common terms will be discussed, as well as viewing actual pictures and videos of many of them. A glossary will also be handed out containing many more terms that we won't have time to touch upon. While open to anyone, the course is designed with the non-technical, non-field, person in mind. The course will review the latest methods for monitoring microbes responsible for microbially influenced corrosion and souring to assist you in protecting infrastructure assets. Microorganisms in the oil and gas industry require specific conditions to grow and reproduce. Students will discuss the required nutrients like carbon, energy, and what they need to breath. Favorable environmental conditions for microbial growth such as temperature, pH, and salinity will also be discussed, along with their response to oxygen. The course will also cover where microbes grow, products of microbial growth, and how microbes “put holes in our pockets”.

In addition, students will also cover microbially influenced corrosion (MIC) and how microbes cause corrosion in oil and gas facilities due to the bad guys: sulfate-reducing bacteria, fermenters, methanogens, iron oxidizers, and acid-producing bacteria. Souring refers to the production of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in oil and gas operations primarily caused by sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) in reservoirs and processing equipment. Measuring and monitoring MIC and souring potential in oil and gas operations is crucial for maintaining the integrity and safety of equipment pipelines. Molecular methods, including qPCR and sequencing, play a crucial role in monitoring microbial populations and controlling MIC and souring. The short course will end with field-based analyses of DNA and case studies.
