This fall, winter and spring, Midland College (MC) will once again offer one-on-one assistance with completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  In order to help parents and students complete the FAFSA, MC will host FAFSA assistance workshops every Tuesday from 4:30-6:00 p.m. and every Thursday from 2:00-3:30 p.m. in the Scharbauer Student Center Welcome Center.  Those interested in attending one of these individualized sessions should reserve an appointment by emailing mcaid@midland.edu

“The application process for FAFSA opened on October 1,” explained Amy Webb, MC Welcome Center coordinator.  “We encourage all students currently enrolled in college and those wanting to enroll in fall 2018 to go ahead and complete the FAFSA.  The U.S. Department of Education awards each college and university a certain amount of money for federal aid.  So many times, I have seen students who are eligible to receive federal aid miss out on the opportunity because they wait too long to submit their FAFSA.  Also, by completing the FAFSA early, students may be eligible for additional federal and state grants.  They may also avoid any possible delays of their funding for the upcoming academic year.”

Webb said that this year, MC is partnering with the Midland Independent School District (MISD) in helping to achieve the goal of FAFSA completion by 70 percent of all MISD high school seniors.  The MISD administrative staff sent postcards to the homes of all high school seniors notifying them about the free MC assistance workshops.  In addition to the sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, sessions will also be provided on several Saturdays starting in February at the Midland College Advanced Technology Center.
