Midland College is proud to announce that sophomore golfer Scott Spark has been formally recognized by the State of Texas for his exceptional athletic accomplishments and contributions to the Midland College Chaparral Golf Team. A state resolution, authored by State Representative Tom Craddick, honors Spark for his impressive performance at the 2025 Grier Jones Shocker Invitational, where he finished in second place.

Competing at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas, Spark delivered a standout three-day total of 207, just four strokes behind the tournament leader. His performance helped the Chaparrals secure fifth place overall, the highest finish among all junior college teams present.

A native of Oldmeldrum, Scotland, Spark is majoring in business at Midland College. His freshman season was marked by eight top-10 finishes, a South Central District championship title, and his contribution to the Chaparrals’ victory in the 2025 NJCAA Division I Men’s National Championship.

Spark’s growing list of accolades includes a No. 3 national ranking among NJCAA competitors, First Team PING All-American honors, the 2025 NJCAA Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award, and recognition as one of six finalists for the Gary Player International Golfer of the Year Award by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

“Scott’s work ethic, focus, and maturity are far beyond his years,” said MC Golf Coach Walt Williams. “He represents the very best of our program, both in talent and character. We’re incredibly proud of how he competes, how he carries himself, and how he continues to elevate everyone around him.”

The resolution commends Spark for his athletic excellence and extends best wishes for his continued success with the Midland College golf team and beyond.
