Midland College faculty, students to participate in community COVID-19 vaccination effortsJanuary 20, 2021
Midland College (MC) students enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing (Registered Nurse) program, the Vocational Nursing program and the Paramedic Program, along with MISD students enrolled in the Midland College/MISD College & Careers Health Sciences Academy will be assisting Midland Health with administering the COVID-19 vaccine at the Horseshoe complex beginning the week of January 25. “Midland College is honored to be able to assist in this important community initiative,” Dr. Steve Thomas, MC president said. “Our faculty and students are excited about the opportunity to participate, and this will be a great hands-on experience for students in our Health Sciences programs. We are proud that we are able to provide Midland residents with this resource.” As reported by Midland Health earlier this week, 5,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are expected to arrive beginning this week. During the mass-vaccination efforts, MC faculty and students will partner with Midland Health, City of Midland and Midland County personnel. Approximately 1,000 people will be vaccinated each day. Those individuals who qualify under Phase 1A (front-line workers) or Phase 1B (65 and older or with chronic health conditions) will be vaccinated first. The City of Midland Health Department will schedule appointments for those who signed up on the city’s waitlist. Appointments are required. Those who qualify for the vaccine will receive a text or email confirmation when they’re scheduled for an appointment. Those who want to register for the vaccine waitlist can do so at Midland Health's website. |
