Midland College’s Helen L. Greathouse Children’s Center Earns Prestigious 4-Star Rating from Texas Rising Star ProgramAugust 20, 2025
![]() Midland College proudly announces that the Helen L. Greathouse (HLG) Children’s Center has been awarded a 4-star rating, the highest recognition possible from the Texas Workforce Commission’s Texas Rising Star (TRS) Program. The Texas Rising Star program is a quality rating and improvement system for childcare providers that serve children in the Child Care Services (CCS) scholarship program. A 4-star rating signifies that the HLG Children’s Center exceeds state standards for child care, offering excellence in areas such as staff qualifications, teacher-child interactions, program administration, and learning environments. “We are deeply grateful to our dedicated staff, supportive families, and the community for making this achievement possible,” said Shelly Haney, Associate Vice President of Early Childhood/Dean of Education at Midland College. “Under Tanya’s leadership, our team has worked diligently this summer to recruit and prepare for the upcoming year. We are especially excited to expand our services with the addition of a second toddler room this fall.” As part of its ongoing growth, Midland College will roll out a two-year plan to meet the community need for childcare for ages infant through 2 years old and increase access to high-quality early childhood education. This year, the HLG Children’s Center will open 12 additional seats in the toddler program. Next year, the Center will open eight new seats in the infant program. Some of these spots have already been reserved, underscoring the strong demand for trusted early childhood care in the community. Texas Rising Star programs receive certification in three levels — two-star, three-star, and four-star — encouraging providers to reach progressively higher levels of quality. The 4-star designation awarded to the HLG Children’s Center demonstrates Midland College’s commitment to delivering outstanding early childhood education and care. By achieving this 4-star status, the HLG Children’s Center not only ensures high-quality care and education for young children but also provides families with the confidence that their children are thriving in a nurturing, developmentally focused environment.
