It seems we have all been living through historic times lately, whether it is a worldwide pandemic, unprecedented weather events, or political transitions. With these recent events in mind, Midland College (MC), the Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series and MC Friends of the Series invite the community to take a look back with Jon Meacham, Presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author. Meacham will present a FREE lecture titled "The Ultimate Choice: Lessons from the History of Epic Presidential Races" Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7:00 p.m.

Due to increased cases of COVID-19, the community has two options to attend this FREE lecture. Participants can reserve FREE tickets for General Admission seating to attend in person on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Al G. Langford Chaparral Center or participants can enjoy the lecture from home via Zoom that same date and time. All in person seating is limited. For those attending in person, social distancing will be enforced, and MC strongly encourages face covering/masks for the safety of all guests. Those interested in attending can email the Midland College Foundation to request FREE tickets.  Visit the event web page to obtain the Zoom link.

“We are excited to bring Jon Meacham to the MC campus and the Midland Community,” said Rebecca Bell, Executive Director, Institutional Advancement, MC Foundation. “His extensive political and historical knowledge and his mastery of current affairs brings important context to the issues and events that impact our daily lives, even here in Midland. The accessibility of his lecture being both on Zoom and in person also gives participants safe ways to watch this lecture during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”

Jon Meacham is one of America's most prominent public intellectuals. A contributor to TIME and The New York Times Book Review, Meacham is a highly sought-after commentator.

His #1 New York Times bestseller, The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels, examines the present moment in American politics and life by looking back at critical times in U.S. history when hope overcame division and fear. Meacham is a co-author of the recently released book, Impeachment: An American History, which reveals the complicated motives behind the impeachments in U.S. history.

Meacham’s Presidential biography, Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush, debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestsellers list.

The Times said, "Destiny and Power reflects the qualities of both subject and biographer: judicious, balanced, deliberative, with a deep appreciation of history and the personalities who shape it.”

Meacham delivered eulogies for both President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush.
