Midland College is proud to announce that Men’s Golf Coach Walt Williams has been selected for induction into the 2025 NJCAA Men’s Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Williams is one of only two coaches nationwide chosen for this prestigious honor, which highlights his exceptional leadership and impact on collegiate golf over a 33-year — and counting — career.

Williams is currently in his eighth season at the helm of the Midland College Chaparrals, continuing a tradition of excellence that has seen the team secure seven top-three finishes in the NJCAA National Tournament and multiple Region V championships. Under his guidance, the Chaparrals have also seen individual success, including the 2019 NJCAA National Medalist winner, Callum Bruce, the 2022 NJCAA National Medalist winner,JT Pittman, and the 2024 National Runner-Up, Tom Watson.

“I am deeply honored to be inducted into the NJCAA Men’s Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame,” said Coach Walt Williams. “This recognition reflects the dedication of my student-athletes, the support staff who have helped us succeed behind the scenes, and the unwavering encouragement of my wife, Carol, throughout my coaching journey. I’m grateful to Midland College for the opportunity to continue doing what I love at such a special place.”

Coach Williams’ contributions to the sport extend beyond his coaching duties. He has served on numerous national committees, including the Ping All-American, NJCAA All-America, Golf Week Magazine Poll, and NJCAA Coaches Poll panels, helping shape the landscape of two-year college golf across the country. He has also been recognized with three NJCAA National Coach of the Year awards.

“Coach Williams' impact reaches far beyond the scorecard,” said Forrest Allen, Midland College Athletic Director. “He leads with integrity, cares deeply for his student-athletes, and raises the bar for excellence. This recognition is more than deserved.”

Before arriving at Midland College, Williams coached at Western Texas College, where he led the men's team to conference and regional championships and a runner-up finish at the NJCAA National Championship. Simultaneously coaching the women’s team, he guided them to back-to-back top-five finishes at the NJCAA Women’s National Championship.

“Coach Williams is a man of character. He is well respected throughout the MC, Midland, and wider golf community. While he recruits great golfers, more importantly he recruits great student-athletes who represent our college in the best of ways,” said Dr. Damon Kennedy, President of Midland College. “This Hall of Fame honor will certainly be a part of his incredible legacy, but I will always remember him for the man he is and the way he epitomizes our college and community.”

An official ceremony to honor Coach Williams will take place after the national tournament, where the Midland College community will celebrate his remarkable achievements.
