Each semester, students attend Midland College on Legacy Scholarships generously sponsored by the Abell-Hanger Foundation, the Helen Greathouse Charitable Trust, the Chaparral Foundation and the Scharbauer Foundation. Students receiving the Legacy Scholarship are required to complete 40 hours of community service. This service is the basis of the Legacy Essay Contest. Students are encouraged to write about their community service experience and specifically, how that service has impacted their lives. Each winner received a certificate and $500 granted from the Abell-Hanger Foundation.
