Midland College (MC) will observe its 45th Annual Commencement Ceremony tonight (May 11) at 7:00 p.m. in the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center on the main MC campus, 3600 N. Garfield.

“Over 500 students have filed an intent to graduate,” reported MC Registrar Angela Balch.  “Thanks to the college’s Pathways to Success initiative, the number of students completing Midland College credentials has increased dramatically in the past 4 years.  We are very proud of our students and their dedication to persist in earning baccalaureate degrees, associate degrees and certificates.”

Of special importance in tonight’s ceremony will be the recognition of a record number of Legacy graduates.  For the past two years, these students have been attending Midland College on the Legacy Scholarship, and each has contributed at least 80 hours of community service to Midland nonprofit organizations.  This year, Midland College is proud to announce that 117 students will graduate as Legacy Scholars.

The commencement address will be given by Ryan Adams who completed his Associate of Arts degree at MC last July.  This academic year, he completed additional hours to receive an Associate of Science degree.  Adams is a 2016 graduate of Midland Christian School.  He has excelled during the past two years at MC and is the outgoing president of MC’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.  In April, Adams was elected runner-up for the position of International Phi Theta Kappa President.  He is also a Student Ambassador and serves as historian for MC’s Students in Philanthropy program.  Having fulfilled Midland College Honors requirements, he will also graduate tonight as a Midland College Scholar.  In August, Adams will begin taking classes toward a baccalaureate degree in Political Science at the University of Texas in Austin.

The public is invited to tonight’s event; tickets are not required.  The ceremony will also be available via live video stream on the college’s website, www.midland.edu
