Midland College Phi Theta Kappa hosts town hall meeting

Subject:  MISD School Bond

Each year Midland College (MC) Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society members vote on an annual project.  This year, members chose to focus on ways that they can impact public education in Midland.  Part of this effort will concentrate on promoting a college-going culture among junior high students; however, Phi Theta Kappa members also want to help Midland residents learn more about the upcoming Midland ISD school bond election.

The MC Phi Theta Kappa organization will host a town hall meeting on Tuesday, October 8 in the Scharbauer Student Center Carrasco Room located on the main Midland College campus.  During the meeting, Christine Foreman and Dave Joyner from the We Choose Our Future Committee will discuss the upcoming bond election.  The public will be able to ask questions during the meeting.  Midland ISD representatives will be in attendance to answer questions.

About Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the world's largest and most prestigious honor society for two-year college students.  Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and 12 hours toward an associate degree.  The mission of PTK is to recognize academic achievement of two-year college students and to provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders.

At MC, PTK is the largest and the most recognized student organization.  During the past 5 years, MC Phi Theta Kappa students have received numerous, high-profile national and international awards.  Internationally, the chapter is recognized as a Five Star Chapter, which is the highest level a chapter can receive.  In addition, the Midland College PTK chapter is a Texas Top Chapter, a recognition which is given to only 18 chapters statewide.  (There are more than 90 Texas chapters.)
