Nursing, Vocational

Midland College offers a certificate in Vocational Nursing on the main campus in Midland and in Fort Stockton at the Williams Regional Technical Training Center (WRTTC).

The Vocational Nursing Program is a one-year (12-month) program leading to a certificate. Satisfactory completion of the program qualifies the individual to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN) which in turn allows the individual to become licensed to practice as a vocational nurse.

How do I become licensed to work as a LPN/LVN?

You'll need to take and pass the National Council Licensure Examination for practical nurses (NCLEX-PN) in order to become licensed by your state board of nursing.

What careers can I pursue in nursing as an LPN?

Home health care settings and nursing facilities are popular settings for LPNs/LVNs, but hospitals and physician offices employ LPNs/LVNs, too.

The eligibility of each person is determined on an individual basis by the regulatory body of the specific discipline. If you have a conviction of a crime other than a minor traffic violation, physical or mental disability/illness, hospitalization/treatment for chemical dependency within the past five years, current intemperate use of drugs or alcohol or a previous denial of a licensure or action by a licensing authority, you will need to contact the specific regulatory body for an individual ruling.
