Computer Graphics

Midland College offers an Associate of Applied Science degree and a certificate in Computer Graphics Technology (Drafting).

The program includes training in advanced technologies including: additive manufacturing (3D printing), subtractive manufacturing (CNC milling), laser engraving, 3D scanning and more. In addition, we offer courses in advanced software including: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, Revit, Civil 3D, Inventor, 3dsMax, Intergraph CADWorx Plant, P&ID, and Equipment, and more.

The Computer Graphics labs at the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) are equipped with state-of-the-art technology including: 3D motion controllers (3D mice), rapid prototyping machines (3D printers), large-format printers, and software. The software used in the Computer Graphics program include: AutoCAD, Inventor, AutoCAD Architecture, Revit, Civil 3D, 3D Studio Max Design, Intergraph CADWorx, Google Sketchup, and more!

Idea Factory

The Midland College Idea Factory is a technology learning space which allows students the opportunity to collaborate, tinker, learn, design, and make using a variety of tools and materials. An idea can be developed from conception to creation using the tools provided in the Idea Factory including: 3D printing, 3D scanning, laser engraving, CNC milling, vinyl cutting, and more.

Industry Standard Software: AutoCAD, Inventor, Civil 3D, Revit Architecture, AutoCAD Architecture, 3ds Max, and Intergraph CADWorx

Equipment: Dimension Elite 3D printer, Makerbot 5th Generation 3D printer, Sense 3D scanner, Epilog Helix CO2 laser engraver, Roland MDX50 CNC Mill, Roland GS-24 vinyl cutter, Stahls vinyl heat press, HTC Vive VR system

No Purchase Necessary

Students are NOT required to purchase their own computer or software. The Midland College Computer Graphics labs are equipped with high-end computers and the same software used throughout the computer graphics industry.

Computer Graphics technicians work with engineers, architects and/or designers to prepare detail and assembly drawings for a wide variety of manufacturing and construction projects.

This program prepares students for careers in the fields of mechanical drafting, process piping drafting, structural and architectural drafting, mapping/topographical drafting, and technical animation as well as many other fields.

The computer graphics industry is an extremely versatile field. Graduates have accepted employment with the following:

  • Commercial and Residential Architecture Companies
  • Civil Engineering and Surveying Companies
  • Structural and Mechanical Engineering Companies
  • Oil and Gas Companies

After completing the Associate of Applied Science in Computer Graphics degree, students have the skills to work in a variety of fields including:
