Projects:
I have two presentations to present during 1999. The first will be at the Syllabus
Conference in Orlando, Florida March 18, 1999. The major emphasis of this presentation
will be sharing with colleagues the problems and solutions to teaching interactive
television courses. The use of multimedia is central to the methodology in these classes. Click here to read the paper.
The second presentation will be at Syllabus99 July 24-28 in Santa Clara, California. This presentation will be larger in scope. I will present a paper on using multimedia technology to teach survey courses in American History and American Government. In addition interactive television courses and the Texas Traditions course will also be covered as time permits.
Texas Traditions is a new course offering. The Traditions class is a Texas History class with a requirement for the students to do their family history. The history of Texas will be interwoven in their family history project to make history real to the student. We will discover how historical events in Texas affected their families, which should provide a better understanding of the significance of history. This is also a team-teaching effort with students being required to take a computer course in conjunction with the history course. The skills to complete a narrative by using WORD, PowerPoint, scanning pictures, and using digital cameras, and burning a CD-ROM will be used to complete their family history project.
