Fair warning, I am no web designer (as this site will illustrate). The purpose of this site is to allow students an additional level of access to me, and hopefully enhance their classroom experience at Midland College. And... I wanted to make a move one step closer to conducting a paperless class by reducing the number of course syllabi, reading assignments, and study guides printed. Call me a hippy or call me a tree hugger, but I believe instructors can significantly reduce the amount of paper waste over the course of their careers by utilizing available technologies such as the internet - check back later and I will say, "I have reduced the amount of paper waste resulting from overprinting classroom paperwork!" What is Included in this Site: First, this site is designed to be a tool for students enrolled in my history courses at Midland College, where I teach live, distance, and online courses. You will find course syllabi, reading assignments, study guides, as well as, sample ID's and essay questions. Additionally, this site contains a moderate amount of information about myself - both personal and professional. I think it is important for students to know something about their professors, as it personalizes the college experience, especially for those registered in distance and online courses. At Midland College, my teaching emphasis is on the basic surveys in American history (HIST 1301 and HIST 1302) and Texas history (HIST 2301). I am preparing a course on the modern western world, which will complement MC's Eastern Civilizations course. Additionally, I am preparing a course in African American history. In the past I have also taught Historic Preservation, and courses emphasizing topics in the American West. Where to Start: Check your schedule to determine which class and section you are enrolled in. (Example: HIST 1301.MC2) Once you have made the determination, follow the above links to your course syllabus. Familiarize yourself with the course requirements and schedule (this will all be covered during the first class meeting). Of equal importance are the reading assignments and study guides. Note that they are available at any time. You would be wise to download and print them at your earliest convenience. Doing so will dramatically increase your overall performance in the class. Following the evaluation of your course syllabus, reading assignments, and exam study guides, take a look at the the FAQs, and study tips. In that section you will find information related to routine activities and successful approaches to exam preparation. Most will find answers to common questions by familiarizing themselves with these pages. If not, send me an email by clicking the "Contact" tab at the top or bottom of each page. If you are so inclined, you can learn a little bit about me as well. In the personal section I have posted a few pictures and given some information about my hobbies, musical preferences, and other snippets of not-so-interesting information. |
