Health Information Technology Application Packet
To apply for the Health Information Technology programs, students must:
I. Complete all the components of the Texas State Initiative college entrance exam (also known as
THEA, COMPASS, Accuplacer) and includes reading, writing, and math scores (For associate degree only).
II. Complete the prerequisite courses of:
HITT 1205 Medical Terminology
BCIS 1405 or ITSC 1409 (computer application course of 3-4 hours)
Anatomy and Physiology I - Accepted courses: BIOL 2401 or SCIT 1407
The second part (A&P II) may be taken once accepted into the HIT program.
III. Complete the online application to Midland College at
www.applytexas.org/adappc/gen/c_start.WBX?s_logon_msg=Y
IV. Send in completed HIT program application to the HIT program office once enrolled in the final prerequisite
course for program entry.

V. Request all official transcripts from previous colleges sent to the ADMISSIONS office for review. Note on
your application the date your transcripts were requested.
Applications are accepted each semester for the following semester. Students should submit application when the prerequisite courses are completed, or will be completed in the semester enrolled. Example, students should submit application mid-term in spring for acceptance into the Summer session.
Clinical Experience Requirements
Students will be required to have a TB titer, current immunizations including tetanus, liability insurance, and a drug screen prior to Clinical I, Clinical II or Coding Clinical.
TSI exemption for certificates
The TSI requirement is not required for coding/billing certificate or other program certificates. If a student wants to pursue the Associate degree once completing a certificate, the student must complete all TSI requirements prior to taking associate only classes.
Health Data Coordinator/Health Data Specialist Certificates
TSI requirements are not required for these NEW certificates. Students should complete and submit the HIT application and college admission application prior to their first semester of enrollment as classes may be blocked from students who are not accepted into the HIT program.
Meningitis Vaccination exemption
Student must receive the vaccine at least 10 days prior to the first day of class. This is a college policy.
