Pamela R. Howell, Ph.D.
Raised in the same small, Southern town as Maya Angelou (Stamps, Arkansas), Dr. Howell has had a wide and varied career in public school teaching, university research, retail management (a New York Times bestseller list rated bookstore), and journalism before attending Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas, to earn her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. She has been teaching at Midland College since 1983 (as well as adjunct teaching at UTPB). She has published in scholarly journals and presented professional papers on a wide scope of topics, including a presentation to the Oxford Round Table in Oxford, England in the summer of 2008. She was instrumental in helping to establish the distance learning program and has served on many student and professional committees as well as community non-profit boards. Dr. Howell has won several Midland College, community, and educational honors for her teaching. She adopted her daughter Elizabeth from Vietnam in 1998 and enjoys a rich personal and family life. She is currently involved in editing two works for other authors as well as her own personal and scholarly pursuits.
