Diane S. Allen, Ph.D.
Dr. Allen is a professor of English, teaching first-year composition and Technical Writing. She is also the coordinator of the online writing center, the Writer's Edge. Her undergraduate degree is from BYU; she earned her master's degree in Professional Writing and Rhetoric from UT-El Paso. Her doctoral degree, from Texas Tech University, is in Technical Communication and Rhetoric. She has worked as a freelance writer, a technical writer for various businesses, a grant-writer, and she writes screamingly funny Christmas letters. She has won awards for her writing, has published in scholarly journals, and presents her work at numerous professional conferences. In the summer of 2008, she presented her research on cochlear implants at an international conference in Montreal, Canada. In her copious spare time, she amuses the faculty of the music department by playing the piano, she assiduously avoids the kitchen, and she takes in enormous stray St. Bernards.
