Midland College Presidential Search Profile

Midland College (MC) was established as an independent junior college in 1972 and held its first classes on campus in 1975. MC is a Level II (four-year) institution, accredited to offer a Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) degree in Organizational Management. The College offers 50+ associate degrees and 50+ certificate options, as well as an Internet-based Distance Learning program and general Continuing Education programs.

The Board of Trustees is seeking a strong and experienced leader who will bring vision, strong advocacy skills, and demonstrated professionalism. The President will be expected to work collaboratively with the Board and all constituent groups in meeting opportunities and challenges including engaging surrounding communities; developing new career programs; and recruiting and retaining students.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of five years successful experience at the Vice President or President/Chancellor level in an institution of higher education, preferably in a comprehensive community college

Desired Qualifications

The successful candidate will be of the highest integrity, and will possess the following skills and characteristics:

  • A passion for the role and mission of community colleges in changing lives and building communities

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and student success
  • The ability to inspire and lead a complex organization
  • A record of successful senior leadership and management experience in a fast-paced environment
  • A record of successful fund-raising and demonstrated experience with foundations, grant development, and institutional advancement
  • Demonstrated success in identifying and addressing workforce needs
  • A commitment to ensuring appropriate linkages between career and technical education and the transfer mission of the institution
  • Experience in developing partnerships with community, business, political bodies and industry groups
  • The ability to use collaborative leadership skills to develop and implement strategic initiatives
  • Familiarity with regional accreditation process and procedures
  • An open communication style with strong speaking, writing and listening skills
  • Familiarity with advanced technology and distance learning
