
Midland College hosts Texas SkillsUSA competition for area high school students

Hundreds of area high school students in Welding, Automotive Service Technology, Cabinetmaking, Cosmetology, Law Enforcement Technology and Computer Maintenance were at various MC campuses, February 13, to display their projects for competition in the Texas SkillsUSA District 2 competition.
SkillsUSA is a non-profit youth organization which facilitates Trade and Industry Education, enhances curriculum and involves all students. Students develop communication and teamwork skills and a competitive edge in the workforce.
The competition began with a formal opening ceremony on Friday, February 13, in the Wagner & Brown Auditorium. The Leadership Contest started later that evening with the Education Bowl, prepared and extemporaneous speaking, Customer Service, Projects, Action Skills and Demonstrations.

On Saturday, February 14, the entries were finalized for display, then judged at various sites on the MC main campus at 3600 N. Garfield, the Advanced Technology Center at 3200 W. Cuthbert, and the MC Building Trades Center at 111 W. Florida. After the judging, an awards ceremony was held Saturday afternoonnin the Wagner & Brown Auditorium of the Allison Fine Arts Building on the main campus.
