Nonprofit/Civic Board Service
From time to time, the Community Relations Office receives inquiries about MC employees who serve on nonprofit and/or civic boards, or an MC employee needs information about a certain agency/civic group.  It was brought to my attention that it would be a good idea if MC employee board service were kept in a centralized location and updated periodically.
If you are currently serving on a nonprofit/civic board or if you have participated in the Chamber of Commerce's "Leadership Midland" program, the Nonprofit Management Association's "Generations" program or MISD's "CHAMPS" program, please send that information to Katherine Curry via e-mail (kcurry@midland.edu).
Your submission is completely voluntary and will be used for informational purposes only.  The information will be compiled in a spreadsheet, and it will be available to all MC employees via the MC Intranet or by contacting the Community Relations Office.

MC E-mail Trivia
In 42 days (28 August to 09 October)  Midland College employees had 978,562 e-mail messages sent to us. Those messages contained 24,809,429,694 bytes.
Of those messages, 149,640 (15.3%) passed through the Postini filter and were actually delivered to the campus e-mail system.
507,501 messages (51.9%) were blocked as unsolicited commercial e-mail (spam) while 321,421 messages (32.8%) were quarantined because they contained malicious code.

Teaching Excellence Award Nominations
From TEA Committee
We have such a fantastic faculty "family" here at MC, and it is an honor to both nominate and be nominated for the Teaching Excellence Award.  Please take a few minutes to carefully consider and nominate a deserving faculty member.  The deadline for submitting nominations is Thursday, October 31, 2013.

Maintenance Work Requests and Warehouse Issues
The Maintenance Department is receiving several work requets to move or pick up items without building or room numbers in the note section.  It is important to be specific regarding the work to be accomplished and to incude the building/room number, i.e., "please remove table marked with note to warehouse or cannabalize (property transaction form completed-copy attached)" or "leaking faucet in Fox I Room 126."
Also, please be aware that the warehouse is full at this time and has already been "lotted" for a Rene Bates Auction.  It will be approximately two weeks before any more items can be transferred to the warehouse for the next auction.

Pink Bake Sale Thank You
From Friends of Serena Jourdan
(Diana Ramos, Denise Beach and Elsa Barrandey)
The Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Bake Sale was a huge success!

The bake sale was created in the memory of Maxie Jourdan Argabright (sister to Serena Jourdan) who was diagnosed at the age of 24 and lost her battle at the age of 27.

We would like to thank the bakers that took the time to bake such amazing goodies and to all of you that came out to support a good cause.  There are 2.9 million breast cancer survivors alive in the U.S. today - the largest group of all cancer survivors.  We hope that are small efforts will help in the continued research for a cure.

We are proud to say that our grand total is:  (drum roll).......$900!  Thank you for not just talking about finding the cure, but doing your part to help make it happen!
