General Information for
Solo and Group Exhibitions at McCormick Gallery
The McCormick Gallery is located in the Allison Fine Arts building main foyer and has approximately 250 feet of running wall space. The gallery is also equipped with pedestals and glass cases for sculpture and ceramic pieces. The space works well for large exhibits as well as smaller exhibits. Approximately six exhibits are installed each academic year with a wide range of media. Exhibitions are usually scheduled for five to six weeks.
Artists are selected by committee review of slides and résumé. The college usually pays a small honorarium plus shipping one-way (mileage limitations may be imposed). The gallery is an open foyer type gallery; therefore, it is open during all school hours and is monitored only on weekends. Although this is considered “low” security, the gallery has maintained an excellent safety record regarding its contents. Works in the gallery are insured with a $250 deductible.
Midland College reserves the right to refrain from exhibiting work that is not in accordance with the goals and objectives of the institution. While it is the intention of the McCormick Gallery exhibition program to allow artists selected for exhibitions to exhibit a full spectrum of their work and primarily work of their own selection, the artist should keep in mind that the exhibit space functions as a foyer to classrooms and to community events. These special events are hosted particularly on weekends and involve both adults and children. Although the gallery committee does not prefer to jury or curate works submitted, the right to select works for exhibition is reserved and agreement to exhibit in McCormick Gallery acknowledges that right.
Midland College is an equal opportunity educator/employer.
