Sometimes your instructor will specify that journal articles for your research paper must come from
               scholarly journals         or            peer-reviewed journals

There are various types of Journals
(also called Periodical publications).

  • Scholarly Journals

  • Popular Magazines

  • Trade Publications

Whether you found your article on printed sources or on an electronic database, you will need to determine if it meets the criteria for a scholarly journal.

Some databases will give you the option to restrict your search to Scholarly Journals. Look for a box to check: "Scholarly Journals" or "Peer-reviewed" or "Academic Journals."

If using Ebsco's SPEEDY SEARCH, check box:     Academic Journals under Source Types.

Periodical publications are published on a periodical basis:
yearly, quarterly, monthly, weekly, daily, etc.
