Application for Legacy Volunteer Service Agency Status

Midland's Legacy Scholarship Program (Legacy Scholarship) volunteer service agencies provide a meaningful community service/volunteer experience for Midland County students desiring to attend Midland College, while becoming eligible for a Legacy Scholarship. The expressed desire of the Legacy Scholarship funding partners, the Abell-Hanger Foundation, the Helen Greathouse Charitable Trust, and the Chaparral Foundation, is that the selected agencies provide a volunteer experience for students that will "touch their hearts about the needs of others."

There is an application process for community organizations requesting placement on the Legacy Scholarship Volunteer Service Agencies list. Key requirements for consideration for inclusion on the Legacy Volunteer Service Agencies list include these qualities:

• Agency must be an autonomous, 501(c)(3) charitable organization based in Midland County

• Agency must have a demonstrated ability to include volunteers (specifically student volunteers) in agency services in a formalized fashion, i.e.:

<                    Volunteer job descriptions
<                    Volunteer application, orientation and training process
<                    Documentation of volunteer activities and efforts
<                    Provision of staff oversite/supervision of volunteers

• Agency must provide services to the Midland community in one of the following categories:

<                    Health and/or Human Services
<                    Arts, Education, or Culture
<                   Emergency/Crisis Services
<                    Youth or Senior Services

• Applicant agencies will be reviewed and eligibility determined only once per year - upon completion of the spring semester at Midland College.
  
• Applicant agencies will receive written notification of their status by the end of June.
   
• Application for inclusion on the Legacy Volunteer Service Agency list does not automatically guarantee approval or placement on the list.  
  
• Agencies not currently on the Legacy Volunteer Service Agency list are not approved volunteer sites for students seeking hours for their Legacy Scholarship.  Only the agencies listed on the Midland College website www.midland.edu/legacy/agencies.php are approved volunteer sites for the Legacy Scholarship.
