Financial aid is a significant issue for most international students. Federal regulations require that students attending U.S. institutions on student visas must demonstrate sufficient financial resources to go to school without working.
For many, if not most international students, these resources are limited. While somewhat limited in number, there are scholarships available to international students to help offset the cost of studying in the U.S.
The following list includes some of these scholarships and links to other scholarship listings. Keep in mind that the competition for these funds is intense and that eligibility requirements are often very selective.
Good Neighbor Scholarship Waiver
(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)
Purpose: Renewable aid for students residing in Texas who are citizens of another country of the Western Hemisphere (excluding Cuba) and intend to return to their country upon completion of the course of study. Must attend public college in Texas. Student will be exempt from international student tuition.
Qualification: High school students not considered. Award available to Latin American/Caribbean, Canadian citizens.
Number and Amount Awarded Last Calendar Year: 235 scholarships.

Adell & Hancock Fund Scholarship Guidelines
The purpose of the Adell & Hancock Fund is to provide supplemental support to U.S. and international students who are in need of additional funds to carry out their international educational plans for either the summer or fall 2009 semester/term. The amount awarded will depend on individual need as determined by IIE/RMRC scholarship committee to not exceed $2,400 per candidate. IIE will award two grants in 2009. Funding for United States Study: A Guide for International Students and
Professionals is a reference directory for prospective international
students interested in studying or conducting research in the United States.
The 2009 edition features revised and expanded articles offering fast facts
on graduate funding, information on funding from outside universities, and
advice on appropriate entry visas.
In the 2009 edition, students and scholars can find detailed information on
scholarships and grants available for undergraduate and graduate study,
doctoral and post-doctoral research, including work-study grants foundation
and institution scholarship programs, fellowships, and other institutional
grant opportunities, plus special funded programs such as the Fulbright
program.
