UPWARD BOUND SCIENCE TEACHER

This is a part-time position with the Midland College Upward Bound program. The position will not conflict with school hours. The teacher will work with Upward Bound students to develop proficiency in Physical Science, Biology, and Chemistry during the program’s Saturday Academies, approximately every other Saturday, September-May, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon (3 hours). Candidate will report to Upward Bound Director and Academic Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with a small group of Upward Bound high school students to develop academic proficiency
• Conduct ongoing assessment of students’ abilities and needs
• Plan curriculum for subjects including Physical Science, Biology, and Chemistry
• Assist Academic Coordinator in evaluating student progress

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Secondary teaching certification preferred or experience teaching Science
• Previous experience working with under-represented students preferred
• Must be an excellent role model for students and have the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with groups as well as individuals.
• Preference given to candidates who have a low-income and/or first-generation college student background.

SALARY:

$21.00 per hour for a Bachelor’s degree; $29.00 per hour for a Master’s degree. Position is funded through a grant.
