Dave Barry appeared on May 3, 2007

Syndicated humor columnist for the Miami Herald, Dave Barry has found a way to incorporate his reputation as “class clown” into a career as a recognized, Pulitzer Prize-winning commentator. Dubbed by The New York Times as “the funniest man in America,” Barry has written several books, including Dave Barry Is NOT Making This Up; Dave Barry’s Gift Guide to End All Gift Guides; Dave Barry Does Japan; Dave Barry Turns 40; Dave Barry’s Only Travel Guide You’ll Ever Need; and Dave Barry Talks Back.

An English major from Armonk, New York, Barry had plenty of experience writing lengthy scholarly papers full of his uncanny observations on the foibles of American society. In 1983, he took a job at the Miami Herald and has been there ever since, although he never answers the phone.

His Pulitzer Prize-winning articles appear in more than 500 newspapers in the United States and abroad. Barry has also written a total of 24 books, and although most contain a tremendous amount of white space, two of those books were used as the basis for the CBS television sitcom Dave's World, in which Harry Anderson played a much taller version of Barry. Barry has also made many television appearances, including one on The David Letterman Show.
