Endowments are Gifts in Perpetuity
An endowment is a gift that is placed in a permanent fund. Your gift is invested. Some of the earned interest is disbursed for the purpose you designate. The remaining income goes back into the fund to be able to stay ahead of inflation. This ensures that endowments will provide the same benefits in perpetuity.
New endowment donors may name their endowments.
Chaparral Circle Endowment Fund/Court of Honor
On October 14, 1992, the Midland College Foundation Board proposed
to place in the foundation’s permanent endowment the sum
of $5.75 million. This was to be accomplished within five years,
concluding in 1997 on the 25th anniversary of Midland College’s
founding.
The $5.75 million goal was met in early 1996 and,
to date, over $10 million has been received. 92% of the Midland
College faculty and staff contributed to the campaign. The Chaparral
Circle Endowment Fund includes the Court of Honor, a plaza of
personalized bricks and benches surrounding the Blakemore Fountain,
which continues to be a tradition to honor loved ones. Income
from this endowment enables the college to continue its record
of excellence while providing a lasting buffer from the “roller
coaster” economics we experience in Texas.
Beginning
in Fall 1996, the interest ($5,295,521) from the endowment
has been placed into Midland College operating budgets for
campus upgrades, technology, instruction, and miscellaneous
projects. Funding is based upon the recommendation of the
Administrative Council to the Midland College Foundation
via the College President.

twice each year to bring the finest minds in the world

Foundation elected to place an additional $10,000 into
the corpus each year. In February 2005, Bank of America
placed $10,000 in the campaign as well. The Friends of the Series also supplements this fund.
The series began with a lecture by David McCullough, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and author, on March 6, 1997, and this lecture also inaugurated the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Midland College. The Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series presents, twice a year, speakers whose academic accomplishments, civic leadership, and/or public achievements will interest, enrich, and enlighten Midland students and citizens. The series presents, twice a year, performers who offer the finest artistic and cultural opportunities to the students and the citizens of Midland by providing events of an international interest and scope.
