Course Descriptions for Integrated Reading and Writing.

IRWD 0370--This course surveys a variety of reading materials.  Students will learn to locate explicit textual information, draw inferences, and describe, and evaluate the information within the across multiple texts of varying lengths. Students will learn how to use vocabulary effectively, describe and apply insights gained from reading and writing a variety of texts.  Students will learn effective editing strategies, generate ideas from texts, and recognize and apply the conventions of Standard English.  This course is not for college credit.  The reading TSI score will calculate placement in this course.  Students in this course are required to take a co-requisite PREP 0370 student success course. All students must sign up for the co-requisite 0171 IRWD lab.

IRWD 0371--This course surveys a variety of reading materials.  Students will learn to locate explicit textual information, draw complex inferences, and describe, analyze, and evaluate the information within the across multiple texts of varying lengths. Students will learn how to use vocabulary effectively, describe and apply insights gained from reading and writing a variety of texts.  Students will learn effective editing strategies, generate ideas from texts, recognize and apply the conventions of Standard English, and compose college-level writing assignments. This course is not for college credit.  The reading TSI score will calculate placement in this course.  Students in this course are required to take a co-requisite PREP 0370 student success course. All students must sign up for the co-requisite 0171 IRWD lab.

IRWD 0372—This course explores a variety of writing modalities specific to college-level assignments.  Students will generate ideas and gather information relevant to the topic and purpose, incorporating the ideas and words of other writers in student writing using established strategies.  Students will learn effective editing strategies, generate ideas from texts, recognize and apply the conventions of Standard English, and compose college-level writing assignments. This course is not for college credit.  The student will be placed into this course if there is not TSI hold for reading. Students in this course are required to take a co-requisite PREP 0370 student success course. 

IRWD 0171--Required co-requisite lab for all IRWD courses.
