Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) offers a variety of programs to help adults increase their academic and workforce skills. Students are provided with the opportunity to improve their skills in Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA), Mathematical Reasoning, Science and Social Studies. There are no fees for any Adult Education program.   Students in Adult Education classes receive direct instruction and may supplement instruction via online programs that help students work at their own level and progress at their own speed.

Students preparing to take the GED® test are given instruction in Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA), Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies. An online learning system, the Aztec Learning System, is available to assist students.  Aztec can be accessed from Midland College campus-based computers and on the Internet for home study.

ESL classes provide students the opportunity to listen the English language and to improve their speaking, reading, and writing skills. These skills are taught in conjunction with life skills to help the student function fully in the community. ESL classes in reading and writing are also provided for Spanish-speakers desiring to pass the GED® test in Spanish. ESL offers an American History and U.S. Government class for resident legal aliens who want to prepare for American Citizenship.

Adult Education and Literacy classes are held at various locations including the main campus, Cogdell Learning Center, and at the WRTTC in Fort Stockton.  Midland College Adult Education is involved in community partnerships with MISD, MISD Literacy First, Casa de Amigos, and Midland Need to Read programs. Additional class sites and community partnerships are established as determined by needs and funding.

An orientation class is required before students enter the instructional classes. For minors under 18 years old, Parental Consent Form will need to be signed during Registration.

All persons interested in enrolling in classes need to call the Adult Education department at 685-6819 or 685-6817 for more information.
